The fight between the 6th Espada Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez in his sealed form and Substitute Shinigami Kurosaki Ichigo in his trusty Shikai had been raging on for several minutes. So far both warriors had just been testing each other out.

Prelude

After Rukia Kuchiki, coming to Ichigo's help, kills Grimmjow's Fracción, Di Roy Rinker, they're both confronted via Grimmjow, who introduces himself as the sixth Arrancar.[2] Approaching them, Grimmjow asks who is more potent. As Rukia yells to Ichigo to get back, Grimmjow, impaling her together with his hand, states it is for sure not her. Enraged, Ichigo assaults Grimmjow.[3]

Battle

As Ichigo moves, Grimmjow, effortlessly blocking off the blade along with his hand, pushes Ichigo away. Deciding to toy with Ichigo, Grimmjow goads him to unlock his Bankai and attack him. After Grimmjow threatens to do to Ichigo what he did to Rukia, Ichigo releases his Bankai.[4]

As Ichigo moves to assault, Grimmjow, stepping out of the way, grabs Ichigo's sword together with his bare hand. Using it as leverage to throw Ichigo an ideal distance, Grimmjow follows up, but Ichigo appears behind him, a lot to the Espada's surprise. Countering Ichigo's assault by means of blocking it together with his forearm, he kicks and punches Ichigo's head a couple of times, sending him crashing into the constructions underneath. Stating he's unimpressed with Ichigo's Bankai, Grimmjow notes it most effective complements his pace. As the smoke clears, Ichigo, having recovered, fires a Getsuga Tenshō. When Ichigo tells him to return again, as their battle is not over yet, Grimmjow states he is a fool, as he is simplest alive since the fight isn't over. He notes Ichigo's Getsuga Tenshō is destructive his own body, and its use is proscribed. He states despite the fact that he may frequently use the technique, it is nonetheless now not powerful sufficient to defeat his released state. His parting phrases are for Ichigo to remember his title and pray he never hears it once more, for if he does, it'll be the very last thing he hears.[7]

Aftermath

When Lieutenant Renji Abarai, coming over to Ichigo, states he gained, Ichigo, claiming he misplaced, realizes the risk the Arrancar constitute and the power level important to defeat them - a power level which he does no longer currently possess. When Aizen refuses to punish Grimmjow, Tōsen, grabbing him, asks Aizen to permit him to execute Grimmjow.
